  1. Hi Blake,
I just listened to your podcast. Hope you were able to get a snowday. I liked how you walked us through a typical day of a sub. My kids go to Franklin Township schools. My daughter is in 3rd grade at Bunker Hill and my son is in 5th at Edgewood intermediate. You mentioned that you usually sub for 3-5th grade. Wonder if you've ever been their sub? So when there are no lesson plans, what's your back-up plan?

  2. Great job on your Podcast! I hope you got that day off like you wanted. It wasn't a big deal switching over to the linked website to hear your Podcast by the way!

  3. Hi Blake,
What a neat idea to talk about...very original! So as a teacher, are possible snow days as exciting as when you were a student...or even more so, as you watch the bottom of the television screen? I really enjoyed your podcast, not only was it original it gives a little insight to the day in the life of a substitute teacher. How often do you sub and how long have you been doing it? I have substituted a few times and enjoyed it very much. Luckily, I never had to have a back-up plan. So did you get a snow day or not? Ha-Ha!
Thanks so much for the feedback and your response in chat... I was well on my way to a meltdown at that point! So what did you think of the process once it was all finished? I guess you braved the snow and went and got a microphone? Was your your website user friendly? How long did it take you to complete the assignment?

  4. Good Podcast. Do you like the sound of your own voice? That's something that I couldn't stop thinking about when I was recording. I can't believe you were up so early for shoveling. That stinks. How much school do you need before you can start substitute teaching? That would be fun. I can't wait to teach and not work at the bank anymore. Happy Valentine's Day! Take care.

  5. I thought your podcast was great! You did what I originally wanted to do, just kinda talk and say what's going on, but I knew I would just completely blank. It was laid back. I heard that you want to teach 3rd-5th? Those are the grades that I am hoping for as well!

  6. Hi Melanie,
I have been in Bunker Hill a couple times, and have taught 3rd grade so i might of had your daughter! I am usually at Kitley Intermediate since it is so close to where I live. Since I have taken many education classes, i have tons of worksheets, fun activities, and lots of resources to use if a teacher does not have a lesson plan. That is a personal touch my mom who is also a teacher at Kitley Intermediate taught me, always be prepared with something to teach the students. Talk to other teachers in the hallway to get a sense of what schedule the students are on and what subjects to teach during the day.

    Hello Janace,
Yes it is still a very exciting time to watch the bottom line waiting for your school to appear. It in someways is a little different on the positive side you are going to have a little extra time to catch up on some work, organize your room a little bit, get caught up with some grading etc. but with a 2 hour delay it gets hectic for a teacher, a teacher must now rework everything they had plan and try to fit it into the day. My mom was talking to me after school about that, she said she took a different item out of each period so each period learned something a little different. Now the next day she will bring them back together by teacher the item that she left out the day before. I thought that was pretty neat. No problem on helping you out with the microphone haha anytime!! Yes i braved the cold weather and snow to get the microphone but it was not a plesant experience sliding around the best buy parking lot hahaha. This assignment really took around 20 mins. The website i used was very user friendly and had step by step instructions for a new podcaster. Plus the 4 mins. of actual talking time and i just added that to my podcast profile and hyperlinked that to the blog. I just started subbing this year, but i have been in and out of both my parents classrooms for a long time now. I was able to help out in other rooms and help grade papers. I was basically a T.A. for both my parents learning groups. I thought overall the podcast went very well, it was kind of weird hearing my voice in reviewing my podcast but i got used to it about half way through.

    Hi Melissa,
I found it very wierd hearing my own voice during this podcast, especially at 6 in the morning when i was not in the best of shape haha. Umm if i remember right you have to have at least junior level credits. a background check and a substitute teachers license which is 15 dollars and that came with my applications so i would assume it comes with most township apps.

  7. Snow days are crazy! Trying to figure out how to get down to IUPIU, go to work and what the kids are going to do at home alone. Everyone did fine and it all worked out. I agree that it was a bit confusing trying to get these podcasts posted. I was at Franklin HS for my sons basketball game not to long ago. What a beautiful facility.

  8. I really liked the effects you put to this. That's really cool you are a substitute teacher. How do you like that? I remember when I was in school how poorly everyone treated the subs. Do you have the same problem? Good work on your podcast!
